In 1915, William H. Roberts founded the Detroit Stamping Company and began providing stamping to the automotive industry. In 1936, the company designed, patented and manufactured the first manual toggle clamp.  Dover Corporation acquired the Detroit Stamping Company in 1962 and changed its name to DE‑STA‑CO.

Innovation, quality and acquisitions have made DE-STA-CO the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and support of clamping, gripping, indexing, transferring and robotic tooling solutions for workplace and flexible automation needs.

Through acquisitions and new product development our product offering has expanded to include automation components and assemblies such as robotic grippers, slides/thrusters, rotary actuators, robot tool changers, collision control devices, end effectors, motion control components and specialty material handling solutions from Central Research Laboratories, Robohand, Camco and Ferguson brands.
